What Is Queer Prom?

Queer Prom is an event hosted by Queer Resource Center Millvale, Harold's Haunt, and Maude's Paperwing Gallery for our 21+ LGBTQIA+ community to relive and reclaim a teenage milestone by attending a dance as their authentic selves. We'll have music, dancing, food, a cash bar, and much more!

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Queer Prom for?

Anyone who is 21+ and identifies as part of the LGBTQIA+ community, who would like a chance to reclaim prom as their authentic selves.

Is there a theme? Dress Code?

I'll give you a Clue - Mx. Body will be looking forward to your arrival.

We're excited to see folx decked out in prom garb or dressed up as their favorite characters. However, we understand these things can be cost-restrictive and want our guests to feel comfortable coming in anything they're confident wearing. We won't turn anyone away based on attire.

Is this all-ages?

Because there will be alcohol, this event is limited to 21+. However, we're looking forward to holding annual proms and hope you can join us in future years.

Will there be non-alcoholic drinks? Vegan/GF food?

Yes! There will be a selection of mocktails, non-alcoholic beers, and soft drinks at the cash bar. You can pre-purchase drink tickets here.
Also, our finger foods will include options for a wide variety of dietary restrictions including vegan and gluten free.

I'll want to hear my favorite throwback song!

Our DJ will not be accepting requests during the event, but you can submit them ahead of time by filling out our Song Request Form here!

Will there be photos?

We'll have a classic Prom Photo Booth and also have a roaming photographer to get candid pictures. Photos will be available digitally in an album that we will send to all attendees. Candid photos may be used on social media!

We know that privacy is really important to some folx to feel safe in queer spaces, so we will be implementing a lanyard system. If you don't want your photo taken, please ask at the door for a lanyard. Wearing this lanyard will let the photographers know that you don't want to be in photos.

What if I get overwhelmed by loud music and crowds?

We're putting together a lounge/quiet space downstairs for attendees to escape the chaos. There will be comfy furniture, relaxing music, and copies of Clue to play for a quick break from the party.

Is the venue wheelchair accessible?

Yes! This year we'll be holding prom at New Sun Rising. There are wheelchair ramps and lifts to get between floors.

How's the parking?

There will be limited street parking available outside of the venue. We encourage attendees to carpool if possible. See the map below for more info.

This year, we opened up a Prom Lottery so that lower income community members could get a chance at winning a free ticket. We also had an option for folx with a little extra cash to donate a ticket to increase the number of Prom Lottery winners.
Thanks to QBurgh and other amazing donors, EVERYONE who entered was able to get a ticket for themselves and a plus-one (if they chose).
The lottery is now closed, but you can join the waitlist by emailing Qrcmillvale@queerwitches.com.
